Zelda: Twilight Princess

NOTE: This is about the Gamecube version, since I don't have $300 to spend on Zelda(Wii + Zelda, not including sales tax).

Here's my little "mini review" of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Since I'm a Zelda nut, there's only one rating I can give this game(remember, my ratings are either "I like it" or "I don't like it"), and that's "I like it". Actually, Twilight Princess gets a special rating of "I love it"(very few games get this rating,even very few Zelda games get this rating, and Zelda was the first series I really got into way back during the NES days. Yes, this is when Jen dates herself...the NES was my first home console...^^; ).

I'm not one of those people who place high priority on graphics when judging games(as long as I can easily tell who's doing what to whom, the graphics are fine), but I have to say that this is the prettiest Zelda game I've ever played(and I've played'em all). I love the changes they made to the Twilight Realm's looks from the first trailers. It's both pretty and eerie with the saturated colors...a definitely nice change from the greyscale from earlier trailers. I also love going through water in this game(and I also like the fact that Epona doesn't refuse to go into even the shallowest water in this game, but that's for another section of this "mini review"). It moves so realistically and you can see the bottom of pools and streams. When Link just stands, the water ripples around him realistically and he actually drips for a few seconds after getting out of the water.

The gameplay is fun as hell, and running around as Wolf Link is fun. I'm probably not the only one who was tempted to have Link chase his own tail while in wolf form...and gave in to that temptation(I can actually make him "attack" his tail...spin the analog stick around to make him chase his tail, then hit B...if you do it right, he'll spin in a circle, then do a spin attack).

I've also seen the Game Over screen more times than on any of the other "current" Zeldas(Ocarina of Time - this game). Then again, that could just be because I suck. However, I have yet to lose to any of the bosses the first time I faced them, and I'm at the second dungeon(love the fiery lavaness in the Goron Mines...so pretty in a fiery inferno sort of way. lol, I'm such a pyrophile).^^;

Epona's also fun to ride in this game. She won't refuse to go into water, and moves more like a real horse. Fighting enemies while on horseback is fun, and that was one of the things in this game that I was really looking forward to. Since the horse was introduced in Ocarina of Time, I've always wanted to fight enemies with the sword while on horseback. So, that little dream has finally come true.

I also like the extra sword moves Link can learn(especially the one where he smashes his shield into an enemy to stun them. I had so much fun doing that with the Gorons). It's not just slash, slash, slash, stab, etc. with the sword. He has a finishing move that you learn as part of the story where he leaps into the air and stabs the enemy while landing.

So, in a nutshell, it's a pretty damn good game.

On a somewhat related note, I've started drawing that pic of the Master Sword. Unlike most of my drawings, I'm actually drawing it rather than "starting", then not finishing it. Since my coloring skills are lacking, I'm debating whether to actually color it on the computer or to just attempt to crappily pencil shade it. I might actually color it after scanning because my coloring skills aren't as crappy as my shading skills. ^^;
