FMA Dual Sympathy First Impression
My copy arrived today(that was fast, then again, I live in California and it came from Amazon's Nevada warehouse.XD), and so, this is what I think of it, so far. ^^;
Note: This review is just my first impressions and it'll be very unprofessional as I only have two ratings for games, "I like it" and "I don't like it". ^^;
I'm actually playing it as I type this, and I like it so far. The sound is good(considering it's on the DS). An instrumental version of "Melissa" is the opening song and the menu has Ed reading the options after you select them(if you poke Ed with the stylus, he reacts by wincing and saying "whoa!" That amused me greatly. XD)
The opening cutscene is partially voiced(and is funny in parts). The dialogue is on the touchscreen and the top screen displays screenshots from the anime(with appropriate wavering effects for heat, like, the entire screenshot wavers while Ed and Al are travelling through the desert and part of the screenshot wavers to show the heat from candles. I thought that was a neat touch).
Gameplay-wise, so far, it's just a standard beat'em up and the story's told in cutscenes. Using the touchscreen for drawing transmutation circles(so far, it's just "touch the dots in the order we show you". Since I just started the game, I don't know if it gets more involved than that)is a nice touch. During the fighting, you control Ed and Al fights alongside you(I think I accidently punched or kicked poor Al a few times, though ^^; ).
Since graphics aren't that important to me(as long as I can tell which one's Ed, which one's Al and which ones are the enemies with ease, then the graphics are okay), I'm putting them last. All I'll say about them is it's nice having a 2D game, for once in a time when everything is about getting the graphics as realistic as possible. The graphics are good, but, to those who think that the graphics make the game(I'm not one of those people...to me, if the game's not fun, then it sucks), the 2D graphics might be a turn-off. Also, during dialogue scenes, characters actually blink, change expressions, and move their mouths(this adds a hilarious effect during a certain desert scene, especially with the voiceovers XD).
So, all in all, I like the game so far. The only minigame I've played so far was the Automail Armwrestling(it's very easy). If you're a fan of FMA(I think those who know me will say that it's a big understatement to say that I like FMA. It's my top fave. ^^; )and aren't put off by the fact that it's a 2D side-scrolling beat'em up, then go ahead and pick it up.
So, that's my "first impressions" mini-review. I might post more on it once I get further into the game(if I remember to do so, that is ^^; ).
