Dog Related Rants

Copied and pasted from the rant section on my board, the first one stemming from a sad thing that happened in our neighborhood...

Why the hell do people get pit bulls if they're not gonna make sure the dog isn't going to bite anyone? Actually, why do people get pit bulls, period? Just this morning, a couple was out walking their dog and a pit bull owned by someone visiting someone in our neighborhood ran up and killed their dog right in front of them.

Apparently, the dog needed to go out, so the people just let it out without a leash or muzzle, or even supervision.

Before anyone tries to tell me that pit bulls can be sweet if they're taken care of properly, I'll just say that pit bulls are more likely to turn on people. There have been cases of people getting mauled or killed by pit bulls they've had since they were puppies and have taken good care of them, but the dog just simply turned on them. These dogs were bred as fighting dogs, remember.

This leads me to a second, related rant...

Why the hell do people let their dogs out without a leash?! There are leash laws for a reason. It's safer for people and dogs alike, when the dog is leashed. In our neighborhood, it seems like we're among the few who actually follow the leash laws, which makes it rather hard to teach Gretchen(our German Shepherd)that greeting other dogs at the top of her lungs isn't cool when the other dog runs up to her, barking its head off.

Gah...people need to grow brains...
