A Non-Japanese Reader's Guide to Death Note: Kira Game

Okay, while waiting for my copy of the second Death Note DS game to get here from Japan, I decided to finish Story Mode in Death Note: Kira Game. Even though the text is in Japanese, it's still possible to play the game. Here's how I did it:

1) Story: If you've watched the anime or read the manga, then you already know what's going on in Story Mode.

2) Color-coded Text: You can figure out what's being raised or lowered by colors; red text is suspicion, blue text is trust and green text deals with your talk points. The arrows next to the red or blue text are self explanatory.

3) Special Commands: Once you figure out which command is which, it's easy. The first two on the top line raise or lower suspicion and the last one on the top line(the upper right) recharges your talk points. The lower left one increases your total talk points and the lower right one is the "super special command" which is different for each character.

4) Character names: It's easy to figure out the character names if you pay attention to the bar along the top of the upper screen and you know all the characters' names in English. It's always in the form of ________----------->________ where the first blank is the character who's currently speaking and the second one is the character being spoken to.

5) Which character you're looking for: If, during the course of a round, your character gets a thought bubble and a "ding" sounds right after a character makes a statement, then, chances are, that character is either Kira or L(depending on which one you're playing. If you're Kira, then the other character's L). Either vote or kill(if you're playing as Kira) that character. If you're playing as L, try to raise everyone else's suspicion for that character so they'll vote to arrest him.

Basically, I think the game's a bit easier if you're playing as Kira because you get use of the Death Note and can simply eliminate one of the other characters after the voting's over. Then again, the fewer the characters, your chances of being uncovered as Kira go up, as well. I've had rounds where I was playing as Kira and was down to two characters and could either kill L and win that way or kill the character who's not L and win with a 1 vs.1 win(where Kira and L are the last two characters standing, which is one of 3 ways Kira can win).

Yes, I love this game, and it's very addicting. Once it arrives and I can figure out how to play it, I might do a similar "Non-Japanese Reader's" guide for the other Death Note game.
