Fic: Betrayal
Title: Betrayal
Fandom: Code Geass
Rating: Possibly R for violence. It is a rebellion, after all
Warnings: Un-beta'd, possible suckage because this is my first CG fic, and therefore my first time writing these characters(and therefore, possible OOC-ness). Slight season 1 episode 25 spoilers.
Summary: Suzaku feels betrayed by Lelouch because he turned out to be his enemy.
Prologue
As he watched Zero's mask split in half after the bullet lodged in it, Suzaku couldn't believe his eyes. Lelouch Lamperouge, his best friend, was Zero. He hadn't wanted to believe it was possible. Yet, he couldn't deny it as Lelouch stared back at him, the Geass in his left eye glowing onimously, blood beginning to trickle down from where a shard of the mask had hit him in the forehead. From somewhere behind him, he could hear Kallen's gasp of shock when she saw Zero's face. When she wasn't fighting with the Black Knights, she went to the same school as both him and Lelouch.
He could sense that things would be different between them now. As Zero, Lelouch had been responsible for the death of Area 11's Viceroy, Princess Euphemia, as well as the slaughter of the "Elevens" when she'd announced the formation of a Special Administrative Zone of Japan, allowing the "Elevens" to call themselves Japanese again. That was something that Suzaku, as Euphemia's Knight, couldn't forgive.
As he and Lelouch exchanged heated words, Suzaku really wasn't listening; not even when Lelouch told him that Nunally, his younger sister, had been kidnapped. All that was going through his mind was the knowledge that this was Euphemia's killer. His hands trembling as he kept the gun trained on Lelouch, he could only glare when the other placed the sakuradite bomb on his chest, daring him to shoot it.
I need to stop him, but if I hit that bomb, it'll kill not only him, but me and Kallen, as well, just as he finished that thought, he noticed that Lelouch had pulled out his own pistol, aiming it at him.
Before either of them knew it, a shot rang out, causing Suzaku to close his eyes. At first, he thought they had fired at the same time, but, upon opening his eyes at the lack of pain, he found Lelouch kneeling on the ground, clutching a wound on his left shoulder. He'd managed to stop him without killing anyone.
As he started toward Lelouch, he looked over his shoulder to where Kallen was hiding.
"I'm letting you go, Kallen. I came here after Zero. Get out of here before I change my mind," he said, his voice totally devoid of any emotion.
"Like hell I'm just leaving Zero!" Kallen spat defiantly, having gotten over the shock of seeing that "Zero" was one of her own classmates. She'd been with Zero since the beginning, when he guided her and the small group that would eventually form the Black Knights to victory in the Shinjuku Ghetto, and she'd been extremely loyal to him.
Stopping, Suzaku aimed his pistol at her.
"Go," he said. Undaunted, Kallen came out of hiding, her own pistol in her hands.
"Zero, run! I'll distract Kururugi," she growled and Lelouch could only smile inwardly as he shook his head.
"Go back to the Black Knights, Kallen. That's an order," he said.
"But...we can take him together," Kallen protested, lowering her gun.
"This battle is lost," Lelouch murmured, the words sounding bitter. He'd had no idea his rebellion would end like this.
Kallen hesistated before seeing his point. If they managed to take down Suzaku, then what? They'd have the rest of the Britannian military to face on their own, since they were too far away for the rest of the Black Knights to come to their aid, and, when she'd left in pursuit of Zero, they hadn't been doing too well.
"Alright, just, don't die!" she spat before running off.
After watching Kallen run out of the cave, Lelouch looked up as Suzaku walked toward him, his face an emotionless mask.
"Zero, you're under arrest for rebellion against the Britannian Empire," Suzaku intoned as he reached down to grab Lelouch's good arm after removing the bomb from his chest. Once he was sure Lelouch didn't have any more tricks, he called for a transport, which arrived some time later.
By that time, Lelouch had finally passed out from pain and bloodloss from the bullet wound in his shoulder just as a couple of Britannian soldiers pulled him to his feet to load him into the transport.
To be continued...
Yes, this is just the prologue. I originally set out to write a one-shot, but it wanted to be a multi-chaptered fic about halfway through. So I made this a prologue. ^^;
