Jen Gets Political
This will likely be the only political post in this journal because I like to take a little break from the nonsense every now and then(especially being a Republican living in California. The California Democratic Party keeps sending Mom surveys and other stuff, even though she's never been a registered Democrat).
Dammit...if I were in the government(lol, no one would vote for me...I'd be too aggressive toward the countries that don't like us), I'd eliminate the current US Tax Code(including the estate tax, which taxes money and assets that have already been taxed)and have a flat tax where everyone pays the same percentage. It'd be a low percentage, like 5% so even low-income people can pay, and no loopholes. the rich would still pay most of the taxes because 5% of a rich person's income is higher than 5% of the income of someone working minimum wage.
Ah, I'll end this there before I turn this into an extremely long rant. ^^;
Anyway, I'm confused about something...since when has taxes been an indicator of how "patriotic" a person is? The Democratic vice president candidate has basically stated that paying higher taxes is "patriotic" and Obama has said that McCain's tax plan is a policy of "selfishness". Since when has wanting to keep more of your own money and decide how to spend it on your own been "selfish"? Does that make any sense to anyone?
Also, how come no one ever fully thinks Obama's "I'll lower taxes for 95% of taxpayers and raise taxes for anyone making over $250,000" plan? Yes, it sounds good on the surface, but it'll hurt an already hurting economy. I'm not an economist and I can see that. Raising a CEO's taxes, as well as the corporation's taxes will result in higher prices for everything and people getting laid off because their jobs aren't essential to the corporation's functions. Corporations, like small businesses, are in business to make as much money as possible, and, so, they want to keep their profit margins as wide as possible. So, with that plan, the unemployment rate will go up(and I'll have even more people to compete with in trying to get a job).Dammit...if I were in the government(lol, no one would vote for me...I'd be too aggressive toward the countries that don't like us), I'd eliminate the current US Tax Code(including the estate tax, which taxes money and assets that have already been taxed)and have a flat tax where everyone pays the same percentage.
